in Faces,Monumental Efforts

Scott_HammellScott Hammel is getting “Paid to Breathe”.  Inspired by a motivational speaker he saw as a teen, Scott resolved to find his passion in life and turn it into a career.  With a keen interest in the art of magic and misdirection, Scott honed his sleight of hand skills at a young age by busking or performing at birthday parties.  One of his idols was the Great Harry Houdini; therefore Scott’s favorite trick was the straightjacket escape.  He perfected this talent and set his sights on the Guinness Book of World Records.  Upon graduating from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute, armed with the support of his friends, family and his education fund, Scott began preparations for his attempt at escaping from a straightjacket which was bound with over fifty feet of chains and secured with four padlocks while he was suspended by his ankles from a hot-air balloon at over 7000 feet.  Requiring a Monumental Effort, the attempt was eventually a success despite the many challenges Scott faced leading up to the stunt.

At the age of twenty-two, Scott was dealt a stacked deck.  He was diagnosed with cancer.  This obstacle did not deter Scott from pursuing his goals.  The cancerous mole was removed, and Scott added motivational speaking to his routine.  In his humorous and entertaining presentations, complete with audience participation, Scott reveals and demonstrates the steps to escaping from the straightjacket.  He uses this as an analogy for overcoming personal obstacles life throws at us.  When broken down into little steps, seemingly insurmountable challenges appear less threatening.

So what does Scott have up his sleeve for his next spectacular trick?   Once again Scott Hammel will tackle his fear of heights in a death-defying stunt.  He will escape from the straightjacket while freefalling from an airplane.  Once freed from the canvas garment, Scott will need to catch up to his parachute which will have been thrown from the plane separate from Scott.  Will Scott escape death?  Watch for updates at: http://www.scotthammell.com/
